The head of state traveled to address national troops in the Pokrovsk area on the start of the week. The president confirmed that he engaged with soldiers at the operational headquarters of the first unit of the state defense force Azov, which is leading defense efforts in the Dobropillya zone, a town approximately a short distance from the city.

Critical Conditions in Pokrovsk

Geospatial data from a national effort showed that Russian forces had advanced deeper into Pokrovsk and nearby locations, though a large portion was not fully held by either side. The situation remains critical, with updates indicating that Russian forces were digging in and building up positions in some districts.

Opposition armies are pushing forward in the Pokrovsk sector and seem to be functioning with growing ease within Pokrovsk itself.

Analysts commented that Ukrainian forces had freed a large area of a Russian penetration in the Dobropillya area, on the east side of the Pokrovsk operation.

Ukrainian Aerial Attacks Inside Russia

Ukrainian long-range drones attacked an industrial plant approximately 1,300km inside Russia at the location. Regional authorities reported an explosion at the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant that caused its water treatment facility to suffer damage, adding that the cause of the explosion was not known. The armed forces leadership stated there was considerable damage to the complex.

National forces said it struck a fuel processing plant at the city in the federal district in central Russia. The extent of the damage was being assessed. The local official confirmed an attack by 20 drones near the area.

Kremlin Defense Legal Adjustments

National guard personnel will now have to guard oil refineries against Ukrainian drone strikes after Vladimir Putin enacted a decree on the start of the week expanding their participation in the war effort. The head of state also signed a law allowing military conscription throughout the year whereas earlier it occurred only during restricted intervals in fall and spring. The federation restricts conscripts from being sent to battle, but after their defense commitment they become part of the backup units, exposing them to potential of being sent to war.

Significant armed forces costs have also started to strain the Russian state budget, with Moscow raising taxes to plug a rising deficit.

The President's Appeals for Global Assistance

The national leader called on America to continue considering to supplying Kyiv with long-range weapons. Appealing to European leaders from the Pokrovsk area, the Ukrainian president also demanded more global measures on Russia – including on Russia's gas and nuclear sectors – and said he sought accession to the union before 2030.

Germany plans to boost armed assistance to Ukraine by €3bn next year to about 11.5 billion euros, the economic authority in the German government said on the start of the week.
