Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
